Christmas Project

For the Christmas project I focused back on my Journey but around my home town, Reading! I recorded this in a differnt way then when I looked at Journeys in a previous project.

Journey 1

Before i started doing the project, i printed out some images of maps in and around Reading. While traveling around i marked out on the map where i had been, using black paint because i found that it showed up better on the maps.

After doing these i decided I didn't actually like this idea and I just wanted to stop doing it full stop but then i decided that i could try and do a similar thing but in a different way.

Next ideas

I decided to sketch out another Journey, this time i started at home and ended up at my friends house after going to the cinema. I stopped the line drawing once i got to a place and started in a new place when I carried on the journey, again i thought this was kind of boring and didn't want to carry on. At this stage I knew I shouldn't have concentrated on journeys but it was also too late to stop and do something else so i decided to look on the brief to get some inspiration. At this point i came across Stanley Brouwn and his work stood out to me, at that point i knew what i was going to try next.

Stanley Brouwn

The peice of work i looked at was called 'This way Brouwn' and it gave me an idea of what to do next.

For this peice of work Brouwn went around and asked people for directions to places and asked them to draw a map for him using ink.

From Brouwn's work I done a similar thing by creating a map but not asking people and using different coloured acrylic paint. Each colour shows a different journey from different locations. I really liked this outcome especially because in the beginning I really didn't think that this project was going to go any further.
Doing this i noticed that when i was in the car the lines weren't straight and go around have curved edges, this is because I would go around roundabouts and not round a corner. Whereas when i walked the lines are more edged where I would walk around a corner and not think if it was a curved corner or not, my head just saw it as a corner so thats what i painted.
