Utopian world
For this project we was given a brief to create our own Utopian world. The word utopia is a greek word which means there is no place but its also a good place. It is asscoiated with ideal visions of human life and society and a belief in process.

At first we was to make our own model of what our own utopian world would look like. I made mine into a room using lots of well known items but they were being distorted, there was also lots of bright colours to show my utopian world is a colourful place that suits me best.
We were then told to go out of our comfort zones as we were next painting aspects of our utopian world onto a big canvas using oil paints. I have used oil paints in the past and loved them but i hadnt used them since so it was difficult to get back in the swing of it again but by the end i didnt want to stop using them. I started off by sketching small areas of my utopian room into my sketchbook to get an idea of what i was going to paint. When it came round to painting i just applied the paint on with no drawing on the canvas first, this helped me create my own shapes of instead of using already drawn ones. I mixed elements of the room together so you can see different aspects in different places of the painting.

Acylic tonal |
After i finished the painting I decided to sit down and do some drawing from parts of the painting, using different mediums like pencil tonal, acrylic paint, chalk pastles, watercolour and pen either using the same or similar colours in the painting or completely changing the colours.
I chose to do this to get some idea of what i could do next or to help me change some parts of the painting.

Oil paint on cardboard |
From these drawings i decided to start another painting choosing different parts of my Utopian room, again using oil paintings. Cardboard really stuck out to me because I could work with the texture of the cardboard as well as adding my own textures.
Howard Hodgkin

After finishing this project I found that I liked Hodgkins work even more because of the similarity to my own my own work I chose to look at Hodgkins because I feel that I can relate to his work better than any other artists.
