Snake skin |
For this project I decided to use snake skin as I really like the look and texture of snake skin. As someone who uses printing a lot, I knew that printing snake skin was going to be an interesting material to print. Getting hold of snake skin is pretty easy for myself because I own four snakes so when they shed I can just take the skin. The one thing I knew that would be a challenge was that snake skin in really delicate so I had to be careful.

Experiment print of snake skin |
As soon as I got hold of the snake skin for the first time I wanted to print it to see the outcome. Using printing ink and a roller, I created this piece which was very difficult because I found I couldn't get the right consistency of ink on the skin, it would either be too thick or too thin. Another problem I had was the ink was too sticky so the skin would either stick to the surface of stick to the roller but after a while and a lot of skin falling apart I managed to create some sort of print.

Second print experiment |
This time I printed with acrylic paint and got this kind of old, faded look. I created like a collage, printing on top of the prints with a little piece of skin to create a large looking print. After I had finished the piece reminded of finger prints so I created a snake skin kind of look using fingerprints.

Fingerprint snake skin |
To create the print above I dabbed the paint on with my finger to avoid the skin from sticking to the roller so the fact I used my fingers to create the fingerprint piece goes well together.

Skin after having paint on |
As I have worked with colour lots in the past and this project so far has just been black and white, I decided to add some colour into it and make, like before a collage kind of piece. For me this doesn't work or look as good as the black and white pieces so for now I will probably concentrate on black and white and add colour into the project somehow.
